The Young African
Athletes Foundation

Roughly 85% of African metro youth participated in sports last year. As talented as they may be, only a handful of these children will pursue a career in their particular sport due to lack of infrastructure, coaching, and mentorship. A few lucky athletes do have the chance to play on semi-professional teams, but only after paying extremely high amount of money, typically in soccer, for developed programs and schools that most parents cannot afford. They and their family are abused. When the athletes are recognized for their talent, their family members often discourage them from pursuing an athletic career because they do not view sport as means of providing income for the family. In most cases, however, even young talented African athletes do not have the opportunity to get recognized since they come from poor families.
