About YAAF

The Young African
Athletes Foundation

Roughly eighty-five percent of African metro youth participated in sports last year. As talented as they may be, only a handful of these children will pursue a career in their particular sport due to lack of infrastructure, coaching, and mentorship. A few lucky athletes do have the chance to play on semi-professional teams, but only after paying extremely high amount of money, typically in soccer, for developed programs and schools that most parents cannot afford. They and their family are abused. When the athletes are recognized for their talent, their family members often discourage them from pursuing an athletic career because they do not view sport as means of providing income for the family. In most cases, however, even young talented African athletes do not have the opportunity to get recognized since they come from poor families.

The lack of proper exposure is not only an African issue, but also applies to western countries. This is why YOUNG AFRICAN ATHLETES FOUNDATION was created – to provide to disadvantaged and unprivileged young African athletes, the opportunity to showcase their talent, maximize their chances to make a living in sport while receiving the necessary education for life, after sport. We believe that any young athlete must have the opportunity for a successful start in education and sport regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income or community. In response to this significant disparity, YOUNG AFRICAN ATHLETES FOUNDATION mission is to prospect and provide sport programs necessary to young athletes to have equal opportunity for organized and professional life. Participation in sport teaches leadership, empowerment, teamwork and communication skill that help young people succeed in all areas of their lives. All this is because we believe that this is where all champions have their beginning.
